What is No Man’s Sky?

No mans sky is easily one of the most anticipated games of the year. With 18 quintillion planets to explore. How could it not be? Using algorithms to create new worlds, instead of doing it by hand such as in the past. This is truly the future of gaming. Playing an astronaut on an undiscovered planet. The gamer uses a spaceship to launch into the atmosphere and navigate there way through space, without taking any time to load. Each planet is a completely different geographical landscape. This includes lakes, plants, caves, waterfalls, canyons and weather. Not only do the planets have different landscapes, but they also hold new artifacts, weaponry, suits and ships. The game is so vast that the players can play for years and statistically never encounter one another. That being said it is possible to have interactions with other gamers. Whether you choose to trade or battle to the death. The trick is just going to be finding them. So, you can only imagine how many gamers and critics are foaming at the mouth to try the game out. Well unfortunately for them they are going to have to wait just a little bit longer. Earlier this week the games release date had been moved back from June 21st to August 9th. “As we approached our final deadlines, we realized that some key moments needed extra polish to bring them up to our standards. I have to make the tough choice to delay the game for a few weeks to allow us to deliver something special” writes Sean Murray. The games creative director and main brains behind the operation. One would think that the short delay is a pretty reasonable amount of time to put the finishing touches on such a detailed and extensive game. Well it seems that the gaming community is not taking it so lightly. It has been reported that not only Sean Murray, but the original reporter of the article about the delay Jason schreier of kotaku have received many death threats. Many people are even blaming schreier for “forcing songs hand” with the article he had written. Seems like a bit of a over reaction to say the least. On the bright side of things schreier and Murray don’t seem to be taking things as seriously as everyone else. Schreier retweeted a message from one person threatening to find him and “fu*k him up” claiming he had a death wish. While Murray also went to Twitter saying “hello games now looks like the house from home alone. #pillowfort”. And “tell me when it’s safe to remove the marbles and oil from the stairs. It’s getting really cumbersome, and I need to use the toilet”. Luckily to this day there have been no reports of anyone ever coming through with online death threats to a video game creator. Still, this seems drastic and over the top. All and all I don’t think that the delay or backlash is going to reduce sales on such a revolutionary game. Also, I believe that Murray and schreier will live to program and write another day.
